Garage Door / Laundry Room

Garage-Door / Laundry-Room
Lots of people aren’t fans of lugging clothing to the laundromat, so creating a garage laundry area seems like a universally fantastic option! If you have access to a washer and a drier, you can easily create a perfect laundry station right in your garage with just some basic tools. Here’s a guide to creating the perfect laundry haven in your garage, tailored by the experts at LA Garage.

TOOLS YOU WILL NEED

  • Carpenter square
  • Cordless drill
  • Pencil
  • Nailer
  • Air compressor
  • Caulker
  • Paintbrush
  • Circular Saw
  • Hammer Drill
  • Stud finder
  • Painters caulk
  • 3 Shelf storage Unit

FIRST STEPS

Hire a plumber to ensure that both the water and gas lines are intact. Then build the shelf for the dryer out of boards and plywood. Use the saw to cut 2X4s into three sections at least 2 feet long to give the shelf support. Find the studs in the wall of your nook with the stud finder and mark them so you can screw the frame directly into the studs. Position the 2X4s so that the top edge is higher than the top of the washing machine – you’re going to want to have some extra room. Then build up the dryer shelf using similar principals, and consider creating an extra top shelf for storage for detergent, bleach, and whatnot.

BEAUTIFICATION

Build a frame around the nook to cover up the rough edges of the plywood using 1X3 inch boards, nailing the frames directly to the wall. Create a 4 board frame for all the shelves, and use painter’s caulk to fill in the nail holes and the crack between the trim frame and the walls. Then paint the frame with a cheerful color. Then add another layer of high end paint to elevate it. Then assemble wire shelves and place them next to the washer, and add some storage boxes, labels – and last but not least, detergent, bleach, and fabric softener.
